I'm driving around today, at speeds around 70mph, i take my foot of the gas pedal for a couple of seconds, and instead of cruising a little bit, my speed steadily decreases easily 30 - 45 mph fast, every car I've ever driven if on flat road, will at least cruise a little bit and maintain the speed or something close to it. I'm not talking for miles, i wasn't using cruise control I'm talking just a couple of seconds while i took my foot off the pedal to stretch. Is their a problem or is this a Jeep thing. I'm thinking this could be why my gas mileage ***** so much

Hard to say for sure, you might want to check that a caliper is not dragging, could be wheel bearing, could be normal.

What others have said, that is not normal at all. If youve been dragging a brake at 70mph for that long then that brake is probably 100% gone. Surprised youve not seen smoke and felt a warped rotor going that fast if you do in fact have a stuck caliper.

mpg's in a Jeep suck

my TJ slows real fast like this but it has no OD

You let off the gas and it slows down 35mph? Hope youre wearing your seat belt!

Better start looking for bearing issues or a stuck rear caliper. Also make sure all your differentials, transmission and TC have the proper lubrication in them. Lastly - double check your alignment.

The KJ should coast a good deal from 70MPH.

Check your tire pressure. Often people don't give it a second thought but low tire pressures can make your vehicle feel like you're dragging it down the road.
If you don't believe me try driving on pavement with less than ten pounds of air :D

Let me get this straight, are you saying it decreased from 70 to 35 in just a few seconds? Yeah totally not normal. Brakes, bearings, any of that would hurt your milage. I still feel like I have a brake problem. Mine decreases about 1 mph per second when I let off. Easily 5x faster decel than any other vehicle I've driven. but 35 in a few seconds, no way.

keep in mind, we Jeeps have the aerodynamic properties of a billboard, but slowing down that fast is kinda abnormal.. My Jeep slows down faster than most cars, but I also realize it's designed like a brick-

Ya, the original Mini was affectionaly known as "The flying brick"...

But back to the OP...

Sounds to me like either the brakes are dragging or there are issues with the ******!

I vote for brakes dragging. Next time you get home, feel each of your wheels by the hub. They should be pretty warm, but if one is dragging, it will be very hot.

Actually if you look at the profile of a Liberty it's pretty aerodynamic, but if you put a roof basket on top with four lamps, a spare tire, gas can and a beer cooler than yes you are driving a "billboard" :p

The JK's are a bit less aerodynamic than a Libby but look at the early SWB Jeeps. The Willy's has none at all and the CJ/YJ/TJ's aren't much better.
