2007 JEEP LIBERTY. NEED OIL ADVISE
Recently bought a 2007 Jeep Liberty for getting around in the snow that we get here.
It has a 3.7L engine with 146k miles. Should I stick with the recommended sae 5w-20 full synthetic motor oil or is it time to switch to a high mileage oil ?
PS. It also has a slight ticking/knocking sound.

Some will tell you to go to high mileage
I run mine on 5 W30 Mobil 1 full synthetic all the time even with high mileage
04 with over 232,000 and 03 with over 175,000

Of course it depends on how well your Liberty was treated in the past
I have worked on some that looked and sounded like junk at 100,000 miles
but ones that had regular maintenance sounded good over 200,000
I know the full history of all mine , bought the 05 new
03 at 70,000 and have full service history from new
05 the same way

What is a C7 engine ? 3.7 ??

I just checked the 2007 Owner's manual & 5W-20 is definitely specified.
Did the tolerances change for the 2007 model year ?

Ya considering how hot these 3.7 engines get, I think 5w-30 would offer a bit thicker protection.
5W-20 seems thin, after all It's a Jeep, not a sewing machine ~ ~ ~ ;)

Oops. Typo error on my part. Where's my spell-check when I need it? 3.7L.
