need some help with a parts store in the detroit area

hey guys.

gonna be visiting detroit in about 2 weeks for work.

gonna take a day off probably- and go shopping for some parts (4.10 axle ratio maybe).

any ideas where to go? im not a local - and i have a very small window - like 5-6 hours.

or maybe a store that can have the parts sent ASAP to my hotel room?

any ideas>?

(i dont live in the usa- and if i buy stuff online i have to pay like....150% purchase tax- so if i bring it myself in my suitcase- i can raelly save. so your help is REALLY needed.)

Not really sure of any chain type places that stock that sort of thing- maybe see if Detroit has a 4wheelparts. Otherwise, maybe order stuff online and have it shipped to the hotel.

I have no idea how, or where you're gonna pull this off. No doubt it could be done though. Although some heavy 4x4 parts in your checked baggage will certainly cost a lot as well in baggage fees, big difference between a 15lb piece of luggage and one that has an additional 70lbs of gears, housings, and what not inside.

You may want to just do an internet search for 4x4 or off-road specialty shops in that area, and contact them ahead of time, as modifying a Jeep Liberty is not common here, not like it is for a Wrangler. Otherwise, you'll go in there and ask for a certain part for a Liberty, or similar, and if they can get it, it'll be special order and take 4-7 days to arrive. Well outside your window of 5-6 hours.

They are about 4 hours away from Detroit.
You maybe able to contact them and have it shipped to your hotel , maybe even before you get there . Also talk to the hotel.

As far as taking it in your luggage, heck of a lot cheaper to do it that way than shipping from the US to where he is. Just had to pay for extra bag for my wife to travel to Tanzania , two "free " bags at 50lbs each , extra bag at 70 lbs, carry on was over by 18 lbs but they didn't catch that :happy175:

Awesome! i already contacted morris center- and they were very helpful-they said my stuff can get to detroit in 3 days. but the info about SUMMIT and JEGS is really helpful - thank you so much!

Good idea there about the parts availability. i guess i should check that in advance.

about the luggage- well- its a 2 day stay in detroit and then back home- so i dont have a lot in my suitcase- i gusee i can shove a set of 4.10 ring pinions in there and maybe an ARB or OX locker (although it does look like some kind of nuclear weapon...LOL.....gonna have some explaining to do).

maybe get a pelican case or some sort of rigid case that the airline would allow even if it is oversized to put all the hardware in.

the nice folks at morris 4x4 center were very helpful. although they are located in florida, they will have it transfered in 3 days
