There is no way in hell I would drop $2200 on a motor that has 90k miles on it to put in a 9 year old Jeep
This seems like a foolish move
The Jeep running even with that engine is not
worth much over $4k if you are lucky

Again I would cut my losses and move on

How much would it have cost to rebuild?

X2 since you can get a brand new 3.7(not remaned) for about $1200 more.

Dang those prices for a new 3.7 engine are crazy! Once mine goes I'm not replacing mine mostly because it's a 2wd :disgust:

Yeah you should have seen my face when they quoted me $4100 for a Jasper motor installed. I told them my Jeep wasn't even worth that much. I only WISH I could cut my losses and move on....unfortunately I owe around $5000 on my Jeep so I have to fix it. And when every penny counts....well...she gets the junkyard motor. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I would call this lesson learned the hard way
you owe ,meaning it is not paid for and it needed a new engine
    maybe you should have:
    put down more cash
    saved up more cash
    paid cash out right
I paid cash ,in a round about way, for my TJ (sold my F150 to pay for the Jeep after I bought it)

I know when you are young these situations SUCK
    I was in 1
I had a '65 Ford Galaxy that I blew up the motor in
needed a ride to work to pay for new motor could not get to work with out a car ,parents gave me 1 "help" option and that was to finance a newer "reliable" car that I could get to work in
Took their help ,bought a 2 door Toyota Tercel, paid car note
saved to repair '65 ,started new job making more money ,a lot more money
sold '65 and bought '76 Firebird ,Smokie and the Bandit style with the 440
a year later sold that and the Tercel bought the F150 4X4.....

Just considering options other than a swap, for those with FU motors.
Depending on what happens to the old motors, the KJ has a steel block and unless the block is cracked, a local engine rebuild shop is another option to consider.
On the cheap-Also I know that some of the local high schools have engine rebuilding shops, where they bill ya for the parts, but expect 6-8 weeks as the instructor goes through it with the kids, as they rebuild it in lessons.

I wouldn't do it. I rebuilt a motor in HS(over 20 years ago) and for fun we'd put sand, among other things, in the engine, just to see what would happen. We thought it was funny being teens. The engine ran well enough to pass the exam but that was it. Like it or not, the teacher does not see everything that i going on.
