I haven't seen it yet, but this morning my wife found large truck tire bouncing down the highway, and she didn't quite get out of the way, so she sent the pics, not sure if it is worth going though Ins

02 renegade
I know I need a turn signal and the fender has a nice crack, but not sure how hard it will be to find a renegade fender to replace with, or I could try to fix it up

any thoughts, advice, parts to get/from where,

thanks in advance

I'd just go get a fender and light from a junk yard, if it's less than your deductible...

If you have a reasonable deductible then go that route, it would be covered under Comp not Collision, and most of us have a lower deductible there. But its all about what yours is.

The light needs to be replaced, it looks like all the rubber marks on the bumper and fender around the headlight area would clean up and buff out. Going to need a new fender flare painted and installed, but the question is did it break out the holes on the wheel well liner where the fender flare attaches? When i had my Deer hit it broke out all the front holes on the wheel well liner so that had to be replaced also. If thats the case you have $2-$300 in parts and then paint, labor, etc... I would just go through insurance and get a shop to do it either way. If you had a $250 deductible like mine then your going to pay that $250 either way, might as well have a shop do it and let the insurance company pick up the rest and make it look right.

^^I agree with kb.

If you have to replace the lens anyway, you could check e-bay for clear corners...just a thought...:D

wife still at work, I think I have a 500$ deductible, I can a get a light for about 13$
if I need a new wheel well liner it's about 30$

but the only Item I had a hard time locating was the fender flare with the renegade bolts
do they come that way? any one have experience, buying that new, or the only way is to get lucky at the junkyard

I would get the part professional painted

just trying to get all my options before I decide

p.s. the crappy part is I just put on new pads and rotors on the front, and new drums and shoes on the rear, as well as all new front hardware, caliper pins, rear hardware and rear parking brake kits over the weekend, could have saved that money for this, oh well,

Yes, it's worth doing through insurance. You can't say "good morning" in a body shop for less than $1000.

My estimate on your damage: $3100

The guy who did the body work on my flare when I crashed said it ran about $300, and it looks like that might be all you need to replace aside from the light cover there.

LOL.. Three thousand one hundred dollars? Looks like all he needs is a damn renegade fender, a few new clips, and a bit of cleaning. 3100 is nearly half of what my entire KJ books for.

I'm no body specialist, but 3100 dollars sounds a bit steep to me.. care to explain why such a cost?

Glad the wife is ok

True.

I would say depending on your deductible, definitely go through insurance, that's what they're there for. And if you're close with your shop, it benefits everyone.. ;)

Or, buy all four and make a deal with Tom, I know he's good for it :D

Because folks quit doing stuff for free a long time ago?

I agree that it may be a wee bit steep. But, it's all about the local economy. I could get stuff like that fixed back home for half of what it would cost where I live now. The oil companies pay exorbitant wages and it's reflected in the cost of everything. Minimum wage here is about $13/hr. Back home it's a measely $5.85. A Big Mac is twice the price here than where I grew up. A 1500sqft bungalow goes for $420K here, back home $80K.............

When I had the grill on my KJ replaced the bill to DC was close to $1K for a simple grill replacement. New grill, prep and paint, that's it. I did the remove/install myself.

Hey Nooby, glad your honey is alright.

thanks, she is fine
yeah she just got home,

looked at it, and the wheel liner is not broken, there 3 pop rivets loose all still work but 2 of them can be pulled back out very easily, and 1 broken pop rivet on the bottom

if I pull the cracked piece together and over the pop rivet on the bottom that is broken into the position it is supposed to be, the crack is all but gone, so I put a piece of duct tape on the crack and up under the bumper to hold it tight and to keep any more damage from the wind for now, and put some plastic over the light since they are calling for rain tomorrow

my plan is the cheaper way, I will buy a new turn signal from rockauto 12$, then I will borrow my dad's pop riveter and replace the broken / loose pop rivets, and add 1-2new pop rivets to the front of the crack at the bottom to hold that edge in place(I will put some touch up paint on theses rivets so they are not as noticeable
then I will buff out the black tire marks

eventually when i have more funds I will get a new fender flare

thanks for all the help

Depends on what the owner expects. I believe he can fix this for much less than that, it he doesn't fix any paint damage.

A woman backed into me with a bike rack, punched a 1" hole in my grill, cracked my header panel and scraped some of the coating off the interior of the engine bay behind the headlight plus somehow her vehicle slightly scuffed my turn signal. You couldn't even SEE the damage unless you were looking for it. She was honest, gave me her insurance and when her insurance company adjuster evaluated the damage, it came out to $1,500.

I would have agreed with you as well. I sourced out the parts: $80.00 for the grill (unpainted), $200 for the header panel, and the minor scrape inside the engine compartment goes unfixed.

I'd paint the grill myself, and I've already purchased the header panel. But doing that stuff professionally is pricey. Paint and clearcoating, dealer replacement parts etc., plus the time for the body shop at $100's per hour. It all adds up.

Edit: I attempted to replace my header panel last year and ran into so many problems that I backed out of it and will attempt again this year. Your header panel is fitted into the front of the jeep with so many pop rivets and one-use-only plastic doodahs, that it's actually a much bigger job than I thought. I'm hoping to have a how-to on it for the group as cracked header panels aren't entirely uncommon in the KJ world.

Depends on what the owner expects.

being that the jeep is 8 years old, a little character is OK for me, there is enough scratches and dings from driving in the mountains anyway
and 13$ for the marker light is way better then my 500$ deductible, now I still have to install new rivets
