I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this but thought I'd check. My 2002 Liberty sunroof opens a bit when I press the button, then I need to press more to open a bit more, and so on. Same thing happens when closing..it goes in short spurts and I have to press the button multiple times. But so far it seems that if I press the middle round button that normally just lifts the sunroof a crack, it'll close the open sunroof all the way. There's no unusual mechanical noises from the unit, so unsure if it's a weak motor, a flaky switch assembly, or something else.

Any thoughts?

yep, just started a couple of days ago. I just replaced a broken rear window regulator nut which at least sounded broken. The sunroof is silent and smooth in short spurts before it stops. Good point about re-greasing, I'll likely try a bit of grease first before starting to remove the roof liner.

Last year picked up a 05 and sounded the same go a bit and slow down. I cleaned the rails really well and then lubed everything ( all moving parts) . Dang thing was so quick then it almost flew out the back
Check that first

What did you use to lube it with? White Lithium grease or something?

Mine's done that as long as I've had it. Never gets any worse and sometimes it works in one shot. I'll have to take a closer look at my tracks and see if some lube will help (it usually does ). Never really bothered me until now.

You guys were right on the money. I worried that there must be areas that REALLY need lube that I can't reach without ripping more things apart, but still I simply smeared some general purpose grease down both tracks of the sunroof, tried the switch again and everything was smooth as butter.
