Hi,

I just purchased a 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport for my nephew. He is so excited to get it this weekend.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maintain the jeep? He wants to learn what to do to maintain it. He knows about changing the oil and checking the fluids. Is there any thing specific to the Liberty that he should watch out for.

Also - he is looking for some parts. Does anyone know where I can get a used cargo cover. His school recommended that they do not leave anything visible in the car. I live on Long Island and I have been looking around for one.

Also what is a good replacement radio for the stock one. I would like to get him one with bluetooth built in.

I am a Ford Explorer guy but he felt the Explorers were too big and he wanted a small wheelbase SUV so Jeep was the only one I liked. I could not let him drive a CRV or Rav4

Thanks,
Mario

There are great write up son here and LOSTJEEPs just for the KJs, tells what fluids, how to write ups etc on just about anything and everything you ever wanted to do to a Liberty
Good reading for sure
Used cargo covers are pretty hard to get a hold of but keep checking local yards, craigslist etc
As far as radios, I still rock the stock ones on all of my KJs so someone will chime in

Check out Crutchfield for radio stuff, they'll set you up with the correct stuff so it's an easy install.

The liberty is particular regarding fluids, gear oils coolant etc.
Did it come with a owners manual book?
The owners manual is a good place to start, it has fluid types & capacities etc.
You can get the online owners manual here Link: 2006 Jeep Liberty Owner's Manual - JustGiveMeTheDamnManual.com
The detailed factory service manual here: Index of /manuals/Jeep/KJ
I installed a new Pioneer with remote/ Bluetooth/ sat radio, etc.. link: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f201/recommendations-upgrading-my-stereo-kj-55995/

I found a used cargo cover on eBay for a reasonable price.

As for the radio, there are adapter bezels available for converting the oddball 1.5 DIN stock radio size to a double-DIN aftermarket radio. They go for about $30. If your nephew would like something bluetooth enabled and with built in Android Apps or iPhone connectivity there are plenty to choose from. Like HoosierJeeper said, Crutchfield is a good bet. Don't let their (only slightly) higher prices throw you. They will make sure you have everything you need for installation and their support is unbeatable. (I had a speaker problem and they did right by me where others would have told me to get lost.) Make sure you use their live chat when ordering if you have any doubts about wiring harnesses, adapters, etc. and you'll be ready to do the installation as soon as the box of goodies shows up.
