I have an 04 KJ, is there a air filter inside the dash?

Nope. No cabin air filter on these. However, if you take off the black plastic piece that holds the squirters (giggity) for the windshield washer fluid, you'll see a little mesh piece there the passenger side. That is where the cabin air comes in from, and I've seen one person put a filter over it. There should be a thread around here somewhere.

Just found the thread. Actually looks like it was a part from Germany. I guess they have cabin air filters over there?

There is another thread around here about how to find the grill behind the glove compartment, which can get quite cruddy. I bet that between what dude1116 posted and filtering the inside area you could do a pretty fair job of cleaning the air up. :)
