I use a cup wrench and a ratchet, works great. :)
Yep. Some folks say they can get their arms up from underneath and access the filter, but not being a circus contortionist I opt to go in from the top. :p The only problem I ever encounter is getting the new one lined up so it threads properly.

If you have the bigger shroud you cant get to the filter from the top. I cant even see my filter if Im looking down from the top or get my hands past the belt.

oh
get under laying on your back, head at the front of the vehicle. reach up and turn.

or get something to stand on in front of the vehicle so you can put your arm straight down ontop and turn.

i find the top is easier for extraction, underneath is better for replacing.

i'd like to think im pretty strong for having a couple crippled arms, but i could only get half of my forearm in, and only my fingers were touching. I'll have to take a peek topside and see if its in reach.

Or I could ask one of my skinny-armed friends to fish it out for me.

Take the belt off, then reach down and manhandle it.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I always got my filter from underneath,I also removed the front skid plate for more room. Now that I sold my front diff and it is no longer in the way, with the skid, changing the oil filter is super easy:D.

I just lie on the garage floor and reach up...my arms don't fit thru to reach down.

It's better than my first car...84 Olds Cierra...had to take the front passenger wheel off to open an access door to reach the filter. There was no ability to get anything thicker than a straw thru the top or below.

So you had a bigger diff and went back to a Dana 30? Or are ya 2WD now?
