High pressure power steering hose plug

So I just recently purchased a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 it runs amazing for having 250,000 miles on itþ! This little gem still has a lot of life in her and from everything I'm beginning to learn about it. It's going to be a good one. Now down to business. After getting the jeep I realized that it had pretty Big leak in the power steering hose. So after a friend replaced the hose. I noticed that there was a plug on the back side of the power steering hose. I plugged in the only wire that could possibly be the right one to fit the plug. After doing this the jeep fell flat in its face. Nothing no start just dead. Once I unplugged that very plug the jeep runs amazing. Can someone tell me why this is
