I think my front passenger side wheel bearing or CV joint is bad. I was just wondering if anyone has replaced the Front CV axles and wheel bearings. I'm looking for a rough estimate on the time and difficulty. I have a weird, almost scraping noise, like it is coming from the brakes (it sounds kind of like a brake drum being turned down) but it never changes pitch of frequency. The only time it changes at all is if I hit a bump, which leads me to think it is a wheel bearing but I don’t have any wobble or vibration just the noise. I always thought that wheel bearings made more of a whirring noise, with quite a bit of vibration but since this is a jeep, well you know. I’m going to do some inspecting this weekend once it warms up a little, because I don’t have a heated garage and right now it has only warmed up to a balmy 18 degrees. Any thoughts?

Most of the time the noise from a bad wheel bearing will change when you turn.

Best way to check it would be to take the wheel off, take the caliper and rotor off, then check it by hand. Check for any play and for noise.
