Question I have a 2002 liberty sport just purchased when I engage 4x4 on flat ground it works fine however when pulling up an incline it makes a loud popping sound any ideas

Are you moving while engaging? You need some speed. What t-case? Command trac or selec-trac? What 4x4 mode are you engaging it into?

Also are you on pavement? 4X4 should only be engauged on loose terrain. Could be driveline bind.
