Another batch, this time from road trip to Utah:
Dist. MPG
3460 ... 284 ... 17.29
3858 ... 398 ... 22.01 ... Hillsboro - Ontario
4203 ... 345 ... 19.75 ... Ontario - Brigham City
4444 ... 241 ... 24.92 ... Brigham City - Green River
4616 ... 172 ... 15.63 ... Green River - Moab (off road)
4855 ... 239 ... 14.29 ... Moab - Moab (White Rim Road)
4929 ..... 74 ... 20.34 ... Moab - Moab (Potash Road, Shaffer Trail)
5142 ... 213 ... 15.68 ... Moab - Monticello (Needles, Lavender Canyon)
5556 ... 414 ... 24.11 ... Monticello - Brigham City
5896 ... 340 ... 21.48 ... Brigham City - Fruitland
6268 ... 372 ... 21.29 ... Fruitland - Portland
I could not believe my eyes when I calculated the consumption driving from Brigham City to Green River, we went well over 65 mph starting at some 4200ft, climbing all the way up to 7200 and descending back to 4100ft. I got similar MPG when driving back (Monticello - Brigham City) and it involved some 30 miles of easy dirt road, the fuel warning started a bit over 400 miles and when I actually stop at the gas station, it was 17.2 gallons to fill up so there were at least two gallons left. Driving around Moab involved quite a bit of dirt roads in 4wd with occasional 4wd low as well. All this with two bikes on hitch receiver mounted bike rack.
I believe that Utah gas must have higher energy content (no ethanol added?) because best I could do outside of it was 22 mpg, it is also possible that reduced air resistence in higher elevation played some role.
I must say that I was very pleased. perfect10.gif
