Gas Cap

When I fuel up my 2005 Liberty with the 2.4 liter 4 ****** I fill up then raplace the gas cap drive maybe 5 miles then the fuel gage goes to empty and the fuel light plus the CEL come on.
Take fuel cap off screw on again tight fuel gage goes to full but the CEL stays on for maybe 5 or 6 starts then it goes out and all is well till I fuel up again and same sequence of events again.
Time for a new Gas cap Ya think ?????

Is the engine off when you fill up? I have read on here somewhere that someone else had this problem if they filled up with the engine running but didn't if they filled up with it off, basically because the system couldn't register a fault if it wasn't on.

Otherwise i would try a new cap, might just be leaking and not holding pressure.

Yup, try a new gas cap.

I also have a '05 2.4 and can tell you for sure that this is not happening in mine.
