 I have a 2006 jeep liberty sport 3.7. I had the fuel pump go bad yesterday, it wasnt running and I couldnt hear the pump. So I put in a new one and it started right up and ran fine. on my way to work the car stauled out at a light and wouldnt re start. I can hear the fuel pump run and It will start if you pour some fuel into the intake. I unplugged the fuel line from the fuel rail and its not moving any fuel. What do I do? :favorites68:

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Did you replace just the pump or the whole pump module? If you just replaced the actual pump itself the line could have came back off so it's working but sending fuel right back to the gas tank(self by-passing).

Thats exactly what happend. I fixed it and put a better clamp on it, put it back together and let it idel for 15 min I hit the throttle and it stauled out. I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail and its deffeinatly getting fuel. I put a little gas in the air intake and it ran for 10 min then I hit the gas and it stauled. Im thinking I messed up the MAF sensor from using gas on the filter to get it to run. What do you think?

And an update, I runs now, but the idle is rough and dose all kinds odd shit when you try to drive it. It does stay running though. It kinda boggs out when you hit the throttle hard. When I play with the ''Charge Air Temperature Sensor'' it cleans up. Like when I unplug it it would clean up then run rough, then when I would plug it back in it would clean up for a few seconds then it would run rough again. Could that sensor have been damaged from me spraying fuel and starting fluid into the intake?

Someone please help. I can keep missing work over this thing. It now idles fine and if you feather the throttle it will accelerate somewhat normally but if you nail the throttle it bogs out and stauls if you hold it down

1= you definitely need to get/borrow a mechanical fuel pressure gauge and get the psi readings. Or get your KJ into a shop and have trained professional do it!
If you dont have sufficient fuel pressure it is never going to run right.

2- If you don't want your Jeep To run Like a HEEP...:icon_lol: Knowing about your Jeep's state of tune can help !
Having a fresh set of copper core spark plugs that are gapped correctly, cleaning the throttle body, and the IAC can help to improve running/throttle conditions.
How many miles are on Your Jeep Now?

Yes you could have damaged the IAT sensor but that will not make the engine run rough, all it will do is cause the engine not to go into closed loop and the MIL will turn on.The MAP sensor would be the most likely culprit that you damaged but if you used starting fluid you could have damaged the engine beyond repair and that would mean a rebuilt or remaned engine.Never use starting fluid in a fuel injected gas engine,or gas engine period as it will damage the engine.

Like stated you need to get a fuel pressure tester and hook it up the the test port on the passenger side furl rail,it must be 54psi(+/- 5psi) at full operating temp(engine running). You also need to pull the engine codes,at least one will be for the IAT sensor since you unplugged it.

I am sure its not getting enough fuel. I should start with it ran fine before The fuel pump failed. So I must have done something wrong with the install. What would cause the pressure to be low? anything I could have done wrong? It was fine after I droped the tank and fixed it the 2nd time for 5 min something must have knocked loose

Im going to drop the tank again I guess

It wont throw any codes. I have used starting fluid in fuel injected engines several times without any issues. If you ran it like that for an extended period of time I could see it hurting it but I doubt 30 seconds of starting fluid would trash an engine
