Make one out of some tin stripping. Its like.. $2 for a roll at any hardware store (not sure which isle?). It has holes in it every...half inch or so. Pretty easy stuff to cut w/ snips, but still sturdy enough to hold a fire extinguisher. Should bend nicely around the extinguisher, and there's pre-made holes to screw it to the shelf!

I drilled four holes through my shelf about 2 inches like this:

O O

O O

Then I threaded a velcro strap through each set, now I can velcro the fire extiguisher down. Hard to move easy, to remove! YOU HAVE TO DRILL THROUGH THE CARPET FIRST, if you go up through then you will pull the carpet..Go slow at first then once through the carpet have at it!

How wide a velcro strip. I don't have carpet on my shelf. Good idea thank you.

anything that can fly around, roll around, etc. should be strapped well. not that you don't trust your own driving but protect yourself from the unknown. if you are wheeling that crap can go flying at any moment. likewise, someone hits you it could go flying.

get the real stuff. same applies with flashlights, wrench rolls, etc., all accidents waiting to happen.

Yep, flying items can hurt....Thats why I strapped mine down with two straps rather than the plastic bracket it came with..

The velcro straps that I used are 1/2 in wide.. I think I got them at Lowes..

Just last month a lady driving a VW Jetta rear ends a tow truck...
The accident itself was nothing really major!
But, her lab top computer launched out of her
open briefcase which laying on her back seat and
subsequently crushes the back of her skull, killing her!

The same happened in The UK when a child's doll left of the rear parcel shelf
flew through the air in another rear end collision and imploded against the passengers head.
Also KAPUT!

Does anyone have a fire extiguisher that is not mounted to a rear shelf?
I have a small automotive style with the holder, that I would like to put in the KJ, I just can't decide on where to mount it.

The mount supplied with it seems like it is intended to be used vertically.

Any suggestions?

Mine sits right where you need it, beside the double walled pipe....

Is it secured in some way, or is it just snugly tucked in?

The red surveyor's tape secures it. Makes it easy to remove in an emergency.
That said, it fits well and snug anyways, but still chose to secure it. Velcros is alternative.

Sounds like a plan. I had considered mounting it in the rear cargo area, but that seemed pretty far away in an emergency. Your plan works better
Thanks for the quick answer guys.

Keep in mind that two extinguisher's are better!
I also have one more in cargo box.
Every couple of months take them turn em upside down, give em a solid "spank" on bottom, and shake em up and down.
This keeps the dry powder from crusting along the bottom.

Those are pretty small extinguishers. Go with something bigger that will last you alittle longer. A few car fires restart after you empty the extinguisher anyway, so if you get it out, disconnect a battery cable if possible. I keep mine under the rear seat on the other side of the jack.
