I really hate ESP cause it makes me get stuck. I've pulled the ABS fuse and that helps a little but the throttle still cuts out. How can I totally get rid of the ESP? Would an ECU from the 02 or 04 model year work on my 06 since they don't have ESP?

I added a Detroit True Trac and it works great. Since the DTT almost locks when the wheels slip, the ESP does not brake because it does not detect the slipping wheel.

There is no simple way to defeat the ESP completely and swapping out ECU's is not a solution especially if you have a CRD like me.

Can't be done, well not for a reasonable amount of money.Get a 4wd model and be done with it,then you will need a winch for where you get stuck then:D.

Don't you have the ESP shut off switch on your Steering column? Just push that and you'll be good to go. You will spin free.

Push the little button on top of the steering wheel for 5sec everytime you start the Jeep. Im pretty sure just pushing it and pushing it+holding does something different. It does in our WK at least.

Also, you all know there is a difference in traction control and ESP, right? ESP keeps you from sliding sideways. They still use the brakes and reduce throttle but for different reasons. There are actually 5 different systems that keep you on the road, I believe the liberty has all 5, idk.

The ESP doesn't fully turn off in the Liberty. When you hit the "ESP OFF" button on the steering column, it is only desensitized.

That is possible though, in the Grand Cherokee and even the Patriot. (Not sure about Commander or Wrangler, I'd imagine in the Wrangler as well....)

I think it doesn't shut off are the sensors that help to keep the KJ from Tipping over on hard turns. I could be total wrong about that too. It's what the stealership told me.

Exactly why ESP should be banned,it's more likely to cause a accident then prevent, just like ABS brakes. It has been proved by stats from insurance company's that ABS causes more accidents then it prevents.
Yet they still provide ABS discounts.

BUT... this is due to drivers STILL NOT UNDERSTANDING the purpose of ABS. If the drivers would turn to AVOID the accident (which ABS allows), then ABS would be a great safety feature, but most drivers think ABS will be their savior by just going straight......

But I still prefer pumping the brakes, but if ABS is there, I DO know how to use it.

That is also desensitized (Tried it one day to see). What I don't think it affects is the Electronic Brake Distribution, and Electronic Throttle Control (Reduces engine power if the system detects an "accident" about to happen.)

Regardless, if drivers would do more than drive, none of this would be necessary. Accident avoidance is worth a lot more than these safety systems.

When you put the Jeep into 4 lo, parts of ESP are turned off just as if you pushed the button. It works great if you have a tire in the air because it brakes on the wheel with no traction.

The only problem I've ever had with ESP off road is muddy or loose rock going up hill. It's tough to get momentum going when the computer keeps applying the brakes. My friends who wheeled with me up Twin Cone will remember the huge plumes of diesel love, but the Jeep getting nowhere fast.

The DTT costs less than trying to remove the ESP and keeps it intact for what it is good for: on road traction in bad conditions (snow, ice and rain). As a Floridian who found himself suddenly living in UT during one of the snowiest year on record, I found ESP to be a close and reliable friend.

You might luck out like I did and find some nut-case that's selling their DTT because they are doing an SFA swap (nothin but love tjkj2002).

Very glad the DTT is working out for you and ESP.

ABS does not cause or exacerbate accidents. Drivers that do not know how to properly brake their ABS equipped vehicles are to blame.
