Well as my luck would have it, my 03 2wd Sport's engine went out on me at 102xxx, just passed the 100k extended warranty. Crank bearings on cylinder 5 and 3 either separated or turned, and will have to be replaced. Pretty much comes down to rebuilding the lower end of the engine. I'd trade it or scrap it, but I owe almost five on it still, and just do not want to be upside down in a car right now. Pulled the engine out last night and will start ripping into it today. Does anyone have any advice or tips to ripping the 3.7 apart/rebuilding it? Any help would be great.

Advice:

While you are in there doing the rebuild, you might as well get some custom cam's for the heads, find some more durable valve springs and look for a replacement torque converter.

Did the engine give up on the highway or during regular city driving?

It went out driving home from work on a regular city cruise. The clang was almost unbearable. We did new gaskets, timing chain, and water pump while we rebuilt the lower end. The top end looked great, so we cleaned it up and left it alone. Its almost back together now. Torque converter? Is this a common issue or something? I'm doing a transmission service (flush, filter/screen, drop pan and clean, vac lines, refill). Think that's going to do it. Getting quite expensive.

The torque converter isn't typically a common failure. I just recommended it because you could get a little more performance out of the KJ's powertrain.
