Changed the oil on the NP242J Transfer Case and found that there was a lot of gritty bronze in the old oil. I have had no problems with using the case and there are no strange noises. It does stick in 4WD part time sometimes when changing back to 2WD but I get around that by backing up to get it out of gear. Anyone have any ideas on what is failing and where the bronze is coming from. Thanks

Not really sure what is bronze in there, hopefully someone here will reply on that one.
How many miles on your KJ? How many miles since you last changed out the OIL?
The transfer case requires ATF+4 fluid! It should be changed out every 25k miles.
You may just have lots of particles cause it has not been done in a long time?
