I am starting a new thread with this follow-up question.
Background: I had been experiencing some banging while in four-wheel drive, and after some recommendations from users, discovered that the CV-joint on my front drive shaft was shot.
Yesterday I replaced the CV-joint with a new one from driveshaftparts.com, and then remounted the drive shaft in the Jeep. Even with the new joint in place, I am still getting a loud banging sound while moving in four-wheel drive. It happens in both forward and reverse. I made a short, 10-second recording from inside the cabin while driving on my icy driveway: https://files.me.com/resipsa/wr1mti.wav
Does this sound like a slipping chain or other transfer case issue? Anything else? Maybe a faililng u-joint?
