The K&N filter media allows larger particles to pass through that a normal paper filter would catch.

This goes for both their air filters and their oil filters.

Might as well stick the bypass valve open inside a Wally World brand filter.

I've been cautious of their air filters based on the stories I've heard (apparently the filters alone have caused major issues on Ram Cummins Diesel engines).

For the oil filter, I am yet to hear anything bad about them. From minimal research, I see the filter media is described as:
"Resin-impregnated filter media provides maximum filtering surface for contaminant removal".

Is this proven to be worse then basic paper media?

I use whatever is on sale, I change my oil every 5000kms or less depending on the weather... if at the end of the summer it's close, I'll change it before it gets too cold out. If I get real nice temps in Feb... I'll change it then.
But my post was mostly just to get IBTL HA!
