I have an '06 Liberty Renegade w/ the HD cooling kit. As it is used primarily as a grocery getter these days and I am having to do more and more minor repairs (150k miles), I was considering removing the HD cooling shroud and clutched fan and leaving them out. My reasoning is that I don't use it to tow or offroad anymore and that damn shroud/fan is a pain in the ass when I am working on anything in the front half of the engine compartment. It is a secondary cooling fan, so it shouldn't have any adverse effects for a daily driver that doesn't do any heavy lifting anymore.
Does anybody know of any flaws in that line of thinking? Thanks!

I would leave it in because the extra cooling will help the A/C work good and also in the summer it helps cool off the very hot engine compartment. If you want to take the clutch fan off for the WINTER that would be a good idea, as it will allow the jeep to get up to temperature faster.

Along with what was said these engines do not like to be hot! If your E-fan ever fails you are really going to want that mech fan to keep your engine from cooking itself. When these engines overheat there is a good probability of bad stuff.

also the clutch fan moves more air than the e-rad fan.
most of use has cut a small notch at the bottom of the shroud in order to remove it without removing the clutch fan.

i cut a 8 x 0.5 inch notch. the idea is to cut a notch wide and deep enough to move past the most front part of the clutch fan.

I am trying to dig through, but can't find one in the how-to section. You don't have any pictures/how to on this do you? I think I am stepping in what you are laying down, but want to be sure before I start cutting.

sorry. I didn't post any pics but others have.

I was getting some help from the 'what did you do to your jeep today?' thread.
It should be page 685.
Here's the link

Hope this helps.
I used a dremel with a cutting wheel.
Cutting just barely enough material to get it out.
I did noticed that due to the in-radiator transmission cooler, I had to tilt and move the shroud around just to go around the transmission cooler hoses. Unfortunately, that meant some bent fins of the radiator at the back. Pretty minor.
