Last week we had temps drop to around negative 50 and stay there all week. Because of the snow, I went to shift from 2wd to 4wd and when I did, I heard a snap, and the shift lever is now like a limp d***.. I can move it freely from 2 to 4lo without anything happening. I looked under the body and it looks like the linkage can't be reached from underneath. My question is how hard will it be to take it apart from above (inside) and what are the chances this isn't a cheap fix?

you can get to it from underneath. the retainer probably broke off that keeps it attached to the lever on the transfer case.
a steel spacer, fender washer, and small hitch pin and i was all fixed up.
