I'm picking up my new LE in June and would like some opinions on engine break-in. How many miles? What type of driving? What type of driving should I avoid?

Congratulations on your upcoming KJ! Be sure to post pictures.

The manual only says not to stay at one speed for too long, as on the highway for example, I beleive for the first 5k miles. So just don't use the cruise control for an extended time.

5K is a pretty good number to aim for before race car driving it.

There are some who say drive it like you stole it from day one so that the computer gets a good learning of what your normal driving habits are. Then there are some who say take at easy on it. Personally, I was easy with mine untill about 5K.....then the fun began...LOL. I wanted to be sure to give all those new engine parts a chance to get some wear on them before I had my fun.

As grogie said, DEFINATELY do not stay at one speed for an extended period of time. You risk having the valves not set properly if you stay at the same speed for a long time....like on the highway with cruise on.

I'm returning to the States after 10 years overseas and am planning some 300-400 mile drives to see family. So, I should just vary the speed on the highway driving(passing all the CRV's of course) and avoid the cruise?

Yep. Some may say it's hogwash, but I say better safe than sorry.

I'm not saying drive like an old man, just don't keep the same speed for a excessive ammount of time.

But with a few of those trips, 5K will come pretty quick.....lol.
