I have a 2005 Renegade 4x4 w/tow package. Late last summer the A/C started acting up running cold then hot, never paid much attention because it was getting cold.

Now it is getting hot here in Atlanta. My A/C seems to work fine and blows cold when it is below 86*, but above that it quits and blows hot air and then after awhile it blows cold. Not certain where the issue is. Have never had any A/C work done on it. It has 146,000 miles and belt is original and in good condition.

Clutch engages fine and compressor cycles. I replaced the low pressure sensor since it was cheap and buddy told me try this first, don't think it fixed issue. I used a el cheapo A/C recharge can from a neighbor that had been used that had a pressure gauge and hooked up to low side port and it reads 26PSI at ambient temp of 75* and cycles up to about 50PSI before dropping back. I do no have a set of gauges to look at high side.

What could cause this issue, a blockage somewhere driving pressure up, or temperature pushing pressure up and tripping something? Some other sensor/switch issue - condenser, etc?

Any thoughts of what to look at? I'd like to get your alls thoughts before I take to dealer/shop and have them check it out and tell me I have to drop $1k to get it fixed. Is it worh getting evaced and vacuumed out and recharged?

Thanks in advance, have a great St. Paddys weekend.

Mike
