Today i changed filters on my 545rfe transmission again. I noticed the mopar original flat filter has a hole on the top, which allows fluid in.
However strangely, this hole is above the fluid level when the transmission is cold and running (after a cold start).
It's visible in this picture, the red line is the oil level when cold and running, the red circle is the approximate location of the hole on top of the filter.
It seems to me that this hole ***** air in during a cold start. I verified it by blowing into the filter and air did come out of this hole, so it is connected. I ended up using an aftermarket filter which doesnt have this top hole.
Very strange design, seems it wouldnt be good for the transmission. Is this intentional??
