Probably an issue with the sensor. Won't hurt anything.

Command Trac Transfer case, for slippery surfaces ONLY as locked at 4 wheels.
Do a dash light test by holding in the odometer reset button, and turn ignition to on Position only, not starting jeep..link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRtm0esWzT8
You should see 4 LO illuminate, as part of the dash lights testing.
If it illuminates in test but not when 4LO is engaged, read this Link:http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-change-transfer-case-position-switch-44188/
Here is s good video explains Command TraC well. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxHQeO-Y7GU

Correct. There are two, 4-Wheel drive modes.. 4-HI and 4-LO. You'd use 4-HI when roads are slippery, moderate to heavy snow, ice, loose sand, shallow mud, etc. You'd use 4-LO if you were super stuck, in deep heavy snow that required a lot of torque to pull out of, or other situations where 4-HI just doesn't provide enough torque to get you through.

2-wheel HI is your normal daily driving mode.

If you had a Selec-Trac transfer case, you'd also have 4-wheel FULL TIME, which is essentially an AWD mode.
