I have a 2012 jeep liberty KK with the standard cooling options / no tow package. From everything I read online the KK did have the option of a tow package which I’m assuming came with the HD cooling set up - fan shroud, mechanical fan, etc. but when looking online I can only find a fan shroud for the KJ model? Nothing for the KK model?

Does anyone know how I can add the HD cooling option to my 2012 jeep liberty? I live in Texas so it’s always hot/my electric fan is starting to give me troubles, so I’d like to upgrade to a dual fan set up (1 electrical/1 mechanical fan), but am having trouble finding the shroud for the KK model years? Anyone have any idea on where I can pick up these parts to upgrade my cooling system?

The fan shroud for the KK should already be there, under the washer fluid and coolant bottles. It is part of the same assembly supporting the electric fan, but there is room for the larger diameter mechanical fan to fit. There is not a separate shroud part for the mechanical fan on the KK. All you need is to add the fan clutch and fan to the front of the engine.

Ahh, so the later model years (KKs) already have a big enough shroud to accommodate the mechanical fan? So basically all I would need to do to upgrade to the HD cooling system is throw a fan clutch/fan on the water pump and theoretically that’s all that’s needed?

I’ve just had issues in the past with overheating on other vehicles due to not having a shroud so the fan isn’t able to pull fresh air as efficiently… I just need to buy a new electric fan / mechanical fan, put them on the car and all should be done?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Yup. I added HD cooling to mine and adding the mechanical fan is all there is to it. I would suggest going with the Mopar fan and fan clutch and keep it OEM. Hayden makes a good fan clutch if the Mopar unit is too expensive. (And you don’t have to change the electric fan at all.)

Just did this this weekend on my new to me 2012. I was able to find a mopar fan but only a aftermarket gmb fan clutch. Did this after changing the trans fluid and noticed evidence of very hot atf. The coating on the inside of the trans pan had bubbled. I believe the cause was a stuck thermostat in the transmission cooler bypass block. Used a sonnax valve to delete the bypass and the pan fluid temp has remained less than 180 degrees since.
