2006 Liberty AC issue

Hello, all! I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty renegade 3.7L. Th AC has always worked great until today. I started the jeep and it immediately blew hot air, never cooled at all. I took it to have the system charged. The gauge never showed any pressure and of course the compressor didn't cut on. The compressor does have power going to it. The pulley is spinning normally. I'm being advised to replace the compressor and dryer. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it sound like that's what will have to be done? Also, is there a chance of the pulley seizing now?

With the A/C off the pressure should be around 85 psi @ 70 degrees F. If it has no pressure, there is no refrigerant in the system. You need to address that first. Low refrigerant may be the only problem.

Once the leak is fixed, before it can be recharged, the system needs to be drawn into a deep vacuum with a vacuum pump to get all of the air out. If you don't it will soon die an ugly death....

The zero pressure was with the AC running full blast. The compressor was not running.

It has a leak and all of the refrigerant is gone. I suspect that is the problem. The compressor is probably fine.

Fix the leak and have someone properly evacuate and recharge it.... you should be good to go.

That's correct. It doesn't engage at all

That's is exactly what you would exect to happen. The low pressure cut out switch won't allow the clutch to engage when the suction pressure is low. (the swtich opens somewhere around 30 psi)
