Welcome to the site.
Got a photo of the oxidized flare? Is it painted? Or just black & Faded?

Thanks for the welcome! It’s the plain, unpainted black plastic flare. Well it was, but now it’s turned grey and brittle. The front bumper cover is grey too, but not real brittle yet. I’m guessing they were replaced with cheap aftermarket stuff due to a fender bender from the first owner. I’m the second owner. 235k on it.

When I got my 04 KJ several months ago , the Right passenger side had been fixed, with a replacement door, fender and flare. The door trim and fender flare were much lighter than the standard "dark Grey". Using acetone , after rubbing them about 5-6 times, they seem to match. Rattle can paintjob.

Good morning all - I followed that thread you posted. Seems easy, so I’m going to the junkyard this weekend to hunt for a decent fender flare. Thanks for the advice, TC. Thanks, too to BobD. I’ll try that method on the front bumper before buying another one. I’ll post a before and after pic.

I suggest getting a bag of the flare “clips”and plastic rivets and such that hold the flares and fender liners on. Can get a multipack for very cheap on Amazon. They Tend to get brittle with age. I keep a selection in my tool kit.

Just did a bunch of rust repair on my '04. Most of the flares are attached with plastic pop rivets. Get them on Amazon with the gun. They can be drilled out or pried up and cut.
I never cared for the dark gray so when I had them off, I painted them with Duplicolor Trim and Bumper paint. 2 cans did everything. The black looks much better with the red body. As for the rust repair, I had to cut out and replace a lot of sheet metal. I learned how to do it from watching Fitzee's Fabrications on YouTube.

Thanks, Joe I’m hoping there’s no rust under there, because I’m going to be trying this flare replacement with mostly my left hand.. because I recently lost the tip of my right ring finger... I’ll definitely check out the video, though - I do know it’s just starting to bubble up at the bottom of the doors.

bought a Liberty 2006 4 years ago that spent its life in the southern GA and Fla sun Had grey oxidized fender flares and bumpers. Had some maguires black trim reconditioners in the garage and tried it. Worked fine for me sort of between grey and black, darker than original grey.

I use Maguire’s on all the black plastic trim parts and my bedliner coated areas. Looks sharp and makes cleaning the dust off easier.

No luck at the junkyard - I’ll try again this weekend. Here’s the offending flare. No fixing that one. It’s probably gonna fly off at some point...

Picked up a plastic welding kit from harbor freight and fixed similar sized crack in my rear bumper. Just a thought. Hehe "crack in my rear"

**** - if you zoom in, you’ll see it has eroded away and it’s as thin as toilet paper. If I tried to save it, it’d crumble. Hmm I guess I got turned around - my crack is in the front!

Temporary fix while you search for a replacement:
JB Weld and some wire mesh screen. Won’t be pretty, but won’t fly off on the interstate and hit another vehicle.
