I have just found a 2002 jeep liberty V6 that I really like. But I think I saw somthing online about the engine failing. Is this true or false?

Which for the most part applies to ANY engine.
Yep. The 3.7 as far as I know hasn't had any major changes...

If it's an '02, I would say go for it.
Most of the engine problems associated with the 3.7L are to do with the valve train it seems. The '05-'06's inparticular.

The 3.7 did have some changes in 2005; A new cam profile, lash adjusters, rings, and a 9.7:1 compression ratio, along with some idle and fuel economy changes. Everything else has stayed the same basically.
They have timing chains for durability, and reliability.
The complaints about the motor are, the rings are up high on the piston, which was done for better overall cylinder wall lubrication; bad for super or turbo charging, and the valve springs. The valve spring failure is not enough to justify a recall; they're SUPPOSED to have weak springs?
