02 cherokee over heating PLEASE HELP

I have an 02 jeep grand cherokee 6 cylinder that keeps overheating but has coolant my boyfriend changed the thermostat and it still over heated. He said it might be the fan not turning on, I just wanted to know if he should change the entire fan or just the motor?

Get him to test the fan,if bad it will probably be cheaper to get the whole assembly.
