The bars are metal as are the connectors. They attach firmly and are very strong.

The width from connector end to connector end is 41.5", the width of the "bar" portion is 38.5" If someone is interested in a set, I can check Pull-a-part this weekend.

I was looking at Pull-a-Part today and found these. $3.49 each. The fit length was perfect and are adjustable, they attached very snugly to the existing roof rails. The donor vehicle was a 2004 and 2005 Nissan Quest. Very happy with $7.00 cross bars !
