My 02 will do the exact same thing every time the battery cables get corroded or the battery is on its was out. Seems odd that there's enough juice to crank it over but not run the fuel pump, but it has done this 3 times over the years so now when it starts that I just go buy a battery and I'm...
If you remove your breakaway switch its no harm. Just remove as much wiring as you can because one of the two wires may go to a battery positive somewhere. I have contemplated building a winch mount to put in my brackets when I'm not towing it but haven't managed to get to it for several years...
My 02 would slam back into third if I punched it to pass and the let off suddenly. Didn't do it if I kept my foot in it or let off just a little. It felt like it would knock your fillings out but I had it for 10 years without trouble.
A bad battery in one of these Jeeps will cause problems you'd never associate with it. I learned a long time ago, when things start acting up, replace the battery. Being that new you should run it by autozone or some place that will check the charging system.
Yes a block of wood that spans both sides of the pan. Front driveshaft out, skid plates off, starter out. Jeep couldn't have made this more difficult to do. It's no wonder labor to do it is so high. May as well check the trans mount while your there, it's probably bad also.
You will need to remove the drivers side convertor and get some of the bolts from the top after the engine is raised. It took me 3 1/2 hours to do the drivers side and less than an hour for the passenger side. Your gonna need a lot of patience. Have fun.
My last KJ would shift violently back into overdrive if you floored it to pass someone. If I let off the throttle slightly before the upshift it was fine. Lived with it that way for ten years without any issues. And yes the fluid and filters were changed regularly.
