Last week I tried swapping my friend's 12'' cherrybomb (2.5'' diameter) on in place of my dump pipe. It was interesting because it felt like it was choking the engine a lot. Acceleration was slower and the power felt down. It was also just as loud as no muffler. I swapped it back the next day...
I believe CherryBomb has a cat back system. For a full upgrade, look for the the complete midsection, some are a higher quality mandrel bent style. May not create more power, but it may increase efficiency.
Future stuff i want to add to complete the setup would be D.U.I SOS coils and a JET chip. I am considering running 89 instead of 87 now because of how much leaner it must be running with the better flow, 30 cents more per gallon sadly.
Again It's been a while, school occupied me. My jeep is lighter than most as I removed the front skid plate and the rest of the car is stock except for my performance mods. Even though my mpg's aren't great, I definitely feel that the engine is more responsive and the torque band feels wider. It...
I have a 2002, went to the effort of porting and polishing a TB for 6 hours to find that it had a different idle air valve... So I'm stuck with a performance part for a car most people consider a family car.
Muffler delete
It's been a while since I lasted posted so I thought I'd update yall on how my system has been doing for the last few weeks. To all those nay sayers that said the muffler delete would hurt fuel economy I'm happy to report fuel economy is still were it was when the KJ had no mods...
I recommend when installing the new pump to scrape all rtv off the mounting surface. I also used some heavy weight oil to lube the gasket, no leaks with this method.
I have an extension from the end of the cat, it pushes the end about 9 more inches to the rear and has an angle towards the ground. That helps keep drone down in the cab, keep flow characteristics more uniform, and sound nicer than nothing at all.
I like the tone and sound of my setup. Power loss is negligible or nonexistent, it accelerates just as hard and fast as ever. Fuel economy is not much of a concern either, I mostly drive in a 30 mile radius and usually set cruise control on the highway. I also can swap the muffler back in in...
I just removed the muffler and tail pipe assembly on my KJ. I have to say it sounds a lot meaner now. It's not too loud or tinny because the cat is still in place. I'm putting a 45 degree dump pipe after the cat using an extra flange I got from a salvage KJ muffler. I'd like to hear if others...
I understand many peoples' doubts about what the mods I listed will actually do. What I'm mostly stating is engine performance theory that's used for everything from the SBC to the 2JZ. You won't notice huge improvements, but you will notice things like better acceleration and maybe better MPGs...
The next part is to increase airflow. The first thing to do is to get a later model intake tube. To make it work you'll have to do something with the valve cover vent tubes. The easiest option is to tee them together and top it with a small pod filter. Wrapping the intake tube with DEI cooltape...
The first thing to do is basic maintenance. I highly recommend the use of K&N air and oil filters. The spark plugs that are the most basic also perform the best, these would be the NGK V=Power copper core plugs. Fancy iridium or platinum plugs are not necessary, this is after all a truck engine...
