Whichever replacement T stat you can source, hotter is better. The OEM's in North America were way to cold (for emissions reasons). I run HDS1 thermostats in both of my CRD's, 203 deg.f temperature. One of them I have put over 150000 miles with no issues.

It would not turn over if the ASD is faulty. But the cam and crank position sensors are prime suspects. Most often they will not throw a code when the failure is intermittent.

If your Jeep has daytime running lights, there should not be a relay in that position. There will be a relay with a heat sink located in the position beside the empty relay socket that enables daytime running lights. It is spelled out in the FSM.

On CRD #2. Changed out motor mounts. Replaced POS thermostat with HDS 203 deg. unit. Replaced both intercooler hoses. Replaced air filter to turbo hose. Replaced crankcase ventilator.
