Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

I think the common sense needs to work both ways. To have Galvanic Corrosion you need: 1. Dissimilar metals 2. Both metals exposed to the same electrolyte. 3. An electrical connection between the two metals. What's happening is that ions are traveling from the more reactive metal to the...

Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

There are thousands of types of steel and hundreds of which axles could be made from. Most structural automotive parts are made from either Alloy Steel or High Carbon Steel. Both are heat treatable and hard, but have very different properties. Alloy Steels are ususally tougher than simple...

Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

You're way overestimating my milage. This is my wife's car used to get groceries and go to the zoo. Some days it doesn't even get driven. So it's my fault that Jeep axles are rusting away to almost nothing because I washed my car with the most popular method available? I'm very thankful you...

Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

We wash the car often, and the tires were last rotated less then a year ago, it wasn't caught at that time. My wife gets a car wash almost weekly in the winter. Maybe without you knowing me at all you can't be 100% sure this is owner neglect??? As an engineer, I would argue a part exposed...

Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

You have seen corrosion this severe on other KKs? I called Jeep corporate and they said there was no recall related to corrosion or axles. I'll be taking it into the dealership for further investigation but I assume they're going to want to hook me with the $1k bill...

Unbelievable corrosion on 2008 Jeep Liberty Front Axles

I took the wheels off my wife's Liberty last night to replace the brakes and noticed something I've never seen before. Both front axles (I only inspected the visible portions) and axle nuts were severely corroded into a yellow powder. I was able to easily remove chunks by hand. There is no...

02 Liberty (3.7L) won't start. No power to fuel pump or spark...

For mine it ended up being a wire in the harness had randomly broken. I towed it to the dealer and they had it figured out in a day with their fancy computer. I recommend you do the same. My repair was $300 and so worth it.

Fuel pump not working (tried new one)

My Jeep is stuck on a dirt road 50 miles from the nearest Chrysler dealership. Is this something a mechanic can do? Does it have to do with the RFID keys? Could I buy a brand new sentry key and just reprogram it on the spot? If I did replace the computer and not program it, could I limp it...

Fuel pump not working (tried new one)

@Jax2A: It sounds like we are chasing the exact same problem! Try this: jumper your fuel pump relay and see if the fuel pump turns on. I did this (after already replacing my fuel pump because I thought it was bad). I think with no spark, no command to turn the fuel pump on, no codes, and a...

02 Liberty (3.7L) won't start. No power to fuel pump or spark...

I swapped with the working blower relay and also jumpered it (30 and 87). If this "kills" when on, would I have to jump the NC circuit insured?

02 Liberty (3.7L) won't start. No power to fuel pump or spark...

My Liberty died last week while driving down the road. I tried two OBD scanners but they both can't connect. I replaced the fuel pump/filter and the crankshaft position sensor. If I jump the fuel pump relay (which I know is good), the fuel pump turns on. It will not turn on when cranking. I also...

    Fuel Pump not getting power

So I thought my 2002 Liberty (3.7L) had its fuel pump go out last week. The jeep just quit while going down the road. I dropped in a new fuel pump and it never fired up. I get out my voltometer only to find there is no current across any of the 4 leads in the connector that feeds the fuel...

Fuel pump not working (tried new one)

Well shoot, my Dad taught me to use it to diagnose, guess I'll pull that trick out if the toolbox. Would the crankshaft position sensor prevent the fuel pump coming on even when the key is first turned? I have an auto-start installed, are these easy to bypass?

Fuel pump not working (tried new one)

I have a 2002 Liberty Sport (3.7L) that's been extremely reliable until now. My wife was driving and it just shut off. It will turn over fine, but never even catches. Here's what I tried: -Starting with gas pedal to the floor. -Got some studdering with starting fluid in the air intake...
