"Interesting" moment when jacking up the front - so what happened?

Yeah, where else *can* you use if you want to get both front wheels off the ground? It has to be somewhere on the centreline of the Jeep to try and keep it balanced, so I can't see any other options apart from the skid. I guess that was what my little rollback was. You better believe it :)

"Interesting" moment when jacking up the front - so what happened?

Before I jacked it, I Googled for jacking points, and found various posts on various forums (including this very one!) saying that you could use the skid plate, or the engine crossmember if you didn't have a plate. So I guess I should chock the rear wheels next time. And if I want to raise...

"Interesting" moment when jacking up the front - so what happened?

I jacked up the front of my KJ for the first time ever today. I just needed to get the front wheels off the ground so that I could turn the steering wheel back and forth easily with the engine off. I did *not* chock the back wheels because I thought that with the tranny in Park and the...

    Power steering high pressure hose

OK, I've pretty much finished the job, so I'll be posting an in-depth How-To with photos in the next couple of days.

If even the dealership doesn't know how to remove the turn signal lamps properly...

Took off my front bumper today, and so had to remove the turn signal lamps. I don't have Haynes, I only have the FSM, and once you've removed the lamp body it just says "Disengage the locking mechanism". It's not a red locking slider thing, it's one of those plastic tangs that you either...

steiger aftermarket window regulator repair kit

I don't think that makes much difference, given that the problem affects all years of KJ to some extent. The main variable is how many regulators break on any given Jeep; I have a 2005 KJ and after five years with no window problems I had the same regulator (left rear) break twice in six months...

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

No problems with the old oil that I know of, the job was just started and left unfinished for various reasons, none to do with the Jeep! Anyway, I guess I've been over-thinking this so I'm just going to go for it. Fit a new filter (which I'll pre-fill with oil), fill her up, let her sit for a...

    Power steering high pressure hose

It's not resolved yet, but it hopefully will be within the next week. I'm going to remove the front bumper and grille reinforcement so I can get full access to the pinch-clamp on the return hose. I've been waiting for a tool to arrive - the plastic rivet setter that I'll need to replace the...

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

Lots to think about, for sure :) I was wondering, though - is the situation really all that much different from leaving the car for weeks without draining the oil? I mean, we've left our own Liberty sitting in the garage with the battery disconnected for about 3 months while we were...

steiger aftermarket window regulator repair kit

I fixed my left rear regulator with the Steiger part in about 2 hours despite having never done it before. It would probably take me about an hour or less now. If you're that worried, then just tape up your windows as a precautionary measure while you're out hiking. I actually keep a roll of...

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

Humidity isn't really a problem at this time of year, in fact the weather is fantastic between about November and April. Summer is just hell - 120F and very high humidity :( Point taken about another oil and filter change after a few hours of driving. Is corrosion something to be worried...

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

When you say pull the plugs, do I have to actually unscrew the spark plugs or can I just pull off the coils? And sorry to sound like a real noob, but what do you mean by "roll or tap it over"? Just give it a few really short bursts on the starter?

    Power steering high pressure hose

Did you just have the high-pressure hose changed? Even though the HP is the most likely to leak, I've read various recommendations that you should have the low-pressure hose changed at the same time. Or you might have a leak from the cooler, the reservoir, or from the steering gear itself. Or...

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

Cool, thanks. I can get a breaker bar onto the crankshaft pulley and turn it over by hand... how many revolutions should I give it?

Refilling an engine that's had no oil in it for 6 weeks

Very long story, but I've been asked to replace the filter and oil in a 3.7 that was drained of oil 6 weeks ago and has been sitting in the garage since then. Is there anything I should know, like should I let the engine stand overnight once I've refilled it to ensure that the oil has got...

Removing front fascia (bumper) - is it heavy?

I'm going to have to remove the grille reinforcement in my '05 KJ Limited, and that means removing the front fascia (what I'd call the bumper) first. I'll most likely have to do the job single-handed, so I'm worried about how heavy the fascia is, I don't want it falling off the front of the car...

    Hood struts?

I just replaced my hood struts and flipper glass struts at the same time, using the cheap Strongarm units from RockAuto. No way was I going to pay Mopar prices. They were direct-fit replacements, so no hassle at all - the job took just a few minutes. Funny how you get used to the factory...

How the ?!#* do you remove the low-pressure PS hose from the cooler?

No, just a 16mm wrench for one end and a 19mm wrench for the other ;) That picture is the high-pressure hose (actually for the 2.4L engine, because it's got the socket for the pressure switch which the 3.7L doesn't use). I've already got that out! You don't have to mess around uncrimping and...

How the ?!#* do you remove the low-pressure PS hose from the cooler?

The hoses are definitely intended to be replaced separately - it's actually recommended to be done every five years. Looks like you're expected to cut the pinch-clamp off the hose, anyway. The replacement hose comes with a non-adjustable pinch-clamp already in place - see here: I guess in...
