I think you are correct. That's just how the transmission operates. I tried deactivating OverDrive, but it still does it. Next time I'm on a fairly steep twisty mountain road I'm going to try putting it in 2nd to see if that helps.
I think what happens is that the engine actually starts...
I also have strange things happen when going up hills at times on my '07. For instance sometimes I'll approach a hill and if I just hold the pedal steady it will shudder and be very weak and make an ugly noise and just won't go. What it needs to do is downshift, but instead it feels like it...
I've got an '07.
I have one rattle.
It's from the long vent that runs along the windshield.
Putting my hand on it doesn't stop it, so it must come from deeper within...........maybe someday I'll try popping it off to find out where it's coming from. Not that motivated right now.
Only...

Here's the upgrade kit from Mopar.com for a 2007 Liberty
I'm still not sure what's included stock because the description of the upgrade only mentions the fan, but the name of this upgrade mentions transmission cooler and engine cooling.

Jeep told me this:
According to our information, the transmission cooler is not standard
equipment on the Jeep Liberty and is only...
No towing, No Hard-Core Rock Crawling, but I will be going for fairly long offroad drives in high elevations.
By the way, does the 2007 come with a Tranny Cooler stock?
I know is used to be standard, but now I'm finding conflicting information.
Howdy. I just ordered a Liberty Sport w/ Auto Tranny last Sunday.
I ordered skids and tow hooks but didn't notice until later that there was an offroad group that had these same items along with extra engine and power steering cooling.
I tried to add the offroad group, but was too late...
