Looks like the Italians will be coming to the rescue - http://www.etecno1.it/diesel-glow-plug-double-filament-p-1562.html Supposed to be a direct drop-in replacement for the original ceramics.

    Windshield

Chrysler dropped the rubber strip (molding) to save a few pennies, but if you have the windshield replaced by anyone other than the stealership, it's apparently SOP for them to go ahead and add the molding strip that Chrysler originally speced.

why am i get such terrible gas mileage?

Uhhh, you do know what chassis the Ford Escape is based on, right? Ford Escort.:pp: Would you really want to take a Ford Escort off road?:freak3:

why am i get such terrible gas mileage?

We oilburners have noted the same thing. In our case, the reason is twofold - we're blessed with 5th gear OD that kicks in at 58 MPH, and above 2000 engine rpm the common rail injection system drops out one of the two pilot injections. Doesn't hurt either that max torque begins around 1800 rpm.

why am i get such terrible gas mileage?

I'll second on the maintenance part - my CRD SHOULD burn oil, a 3.7 gasser shouldn't. That engine has some definite issues. Get it straightened out, and you should see a definite improvement even with a lift and sucky gearing. After all the major maintenance I recently did on my oilburner...

    Hissing under power

Reminds me of an old New Yorker cartoon I saw years ago. Mechanic to owner - "Sir, we've found the hissing noise in your car. It's your mother-in-law in the rear seat".:icon_mrgreen:

    Hitch Cargo Bag/Box Recommendations?

I had considered one on the roof as well - but I was told by a fellow CRD owner that the factory roof rails (ones running front to rear) on our '05's are only rated for 75 lbs total, and nothing whatsoever directly on the roof itself, per the owners manual. Also heard that one of the roof...

    Hitch Cargo Bag/Box Recommendations?

Well, just got back to SA from 2 weeks in NC back on Friday. The reason for the trip was not pleasant - my 73 year old father's long history of health problems finally took their ultimate toll, and he passed away on Aug 12th. Day after the funeral, the mail carrier delivered a recall letter...

    uhh...6.2?

Advance, maybe not any more. Back in January up in NC, I heard one of the workers mention, as he was going out to read the codes on a customer's car, that within a few weeks they would be prohibited from reading codes on customer's vehicles - most likely a corporate decision, brought on by a...

    HD Cooling kit

You can get a Hayden fan clutch, P/N 2736 for 02-07 KJ V6's, for $55. Also, the 11 bladed nylon fan is still available online for around $60. I've got the exploded drawings for an 05 KJ on my old computer, such that I could figure out the P/N you'd need for the fan shroud, but that's back in...

    Oil Pan Corrosion

Agreed. Reference the thread on the Valvoline oil change shop, using a smaller filter than speced to save the cost of a 1/2 quart of oil, and then having the balls to tell the customer if he didn't like it, TS. A friend in Charlotte has both an 02 Limited and an 05 Limited - V6 and CRD...

    Oil Pan Corrosion

Ye gawds, that's nasty looking!:signs16: Perhaps the Italians DID have a good idea when they put an aluminum pan on my oilburner! Ummm, just a thought - if the engine oil pan is in that bad a shape - you didn't happen to take a good look at the tranny pan as well?

Oil filter issue at Valvoline IOC

Stories like this, are the reason I tell people that when they find a good mechanic, treat him like your best friend or family! When I come across a well-run shop, that's upfront with me and doesn't feed me a line of BS (20 years in the engineroom on submarines, 12 years building trucks for...

Oil filter issue at Valvoline IOC

Exactly. With an OEM size filter on my CRD, it takes 6 1/2 quarts. If I use a Mobil 1 M1-301 or Amsoil EaO-26 (longer and larger diameter, same thread and gasket size), it'll easily take 7 quarts. Actually, there's only a few different industry standard thread and gasket sizes when it comes...

    Letter M

Dealership logo or emblem? I've seen dealerships add their name or logo in chrome lettering (meant to look OEM) like that before - matter of fact, there's one particular CJD dealer here in SA that appears to do it on ALL the vehicles they sell, as many of them I've gotten behind at...

    In-Radiator Tranny Cooler AND Standalone?

Check the tranny section in the FSM (for 05 it has a picture which identifies the inlet and outlet connections on the tranny itself), or stop by a tranny shop that's dealt with your type tranny and ask. Infrared thermometer at Autozone for $30 - less painful and more accurate than your fingers!

2003 Jeep Liberty passenger side heated seats problem

Offhand, might be the fuse or circuit breaker supplying power to the heating element is out - and the blinking light is telling you there's no power to it - or the heating element itself is burned out, and the blinking light is telling you it doesn't see anything hooked up (ie, open circuit).

Synthetic oil and Earth Friendly Filter

FYI for those that own a gasser KJ AND a CRD KJ - the same oil filter will fit on both - same thread size and gasket size - just have to be careful of the outside dimensions (length and diameter).

    Code P1140

Let's be a little more specific here. If the intake valve has failed mechanically - A new valve will fix the mechanical problem and make the CEL/code go away. A GDE tune will simply tell the ECM to turn off the intake valve and EGR, and make the CEL/code go away. The intake valve will...

Synthetic oil and Earth Friendly Filter

You wanna see a real catfight? Go over to the oilburner section and ask which API Spec oil is better, CI-4+ or CJ-4. Bring your popcorn!:happy175:
