How much have you towed with your manual tranny?

So again: You are saying that a 1-ton truck weighs more than the 5th wheel it's pulling? Or that a Semi truck weighs more than the trailer and load it's pulling?

How much have you towed with your manual tranny?

Can someone confirm the theory that the tow vehicle weight needs to weigh more than the towed load? A tractor-trailer combo or a 1ton with a 5th-wheel setup are two examples that I can think of where the trailer weighs more than the the tow vehicle. I always thought swaying was from...

How do I replace a wheel lug?

Never thought of using a hammer... I guess I'll give this method a 'whack' the next time I cross thread a stud.

These are the basic change intervals Transmission Fluid = 30,000 miles [Fluid = ATF+4] Transfercase = 15,000 miles [Fluid = ATF+4] Front Diff = 15,000 miles [75w-90 or 75w-140] Rear Diff = 15,000 miles [75w-90 or 75w-140] Engine Oil = 3000 miles or your perfered change interval [5w-30]...

How do I replace a wheel lug?

You are refering to the wheel stud. The stud is pressed into the hub assembly. If the hub comes off, you can take the whole thing to napa, have them press out the bad stud and stick in a new one for you. *note I have never looked at the hub assembly on the KJ so I do not know for certain...

Cheif, so sorry... Class ran long so I went home angry, had a "drink" and then went to sleep. I'll check as soon as I get out of work today.

    Replaced My 02 Liberty Headlights

I need to do this... where did you buy the lens assemblies? I have been thinking about this lately as my 2002 is really starting to show some age around the body seams and the headlight lens's.

Is thispart a must have for the sun roof?

I'm not sure right off the bat. I'll have to take a poke around my KJ when I get home tonight after class and see if I can pick out that piece. Unless someone has a FSM close by...

    Towing with spare on back

I think I got about 1/2" of additional clearance but I never really measured so I'm just guessing but the change is pretty decent. Also, you will still have clearance to open the flipper glass with the tire carrier rotated 180 degree's.

    Towing with spare on back

If you haven't already: Take the spare tire off and flip the spare tire carrier 180 degrees and reassemble. This moves the spare tire up slightly and might give you a little more clearance. If flipping the spare tire carrier doesn't work - you can always use the open swing gate method... I...

    Rear Plate Light

They do exist Super Bright LED's But is it worth it? The 168 is like $0.98 for a pack of two and they last at least 5 years. Or in my case, so far, 8 years. LED is nice, but so is a cheap bulb.

    Newbie Questions...

The ARB will fit on the CRD. Not to direct you away from this site but there is a wealth of information on a sister site [googling LOST KJ's should do the trick.] Most of the KJ owners only run the bull bar or the ARB - not both. Simply because, as ChiefRudy states, the equipment mounts...

    Transmission cooler, Need or not?

If you leave your cooling setup stock and simply turn off the Overdrive while trailering your KJ should live a long and happy life. If you are still looking for an improved solution over the stock setup I would recommend mounting a small electric pusher fan on the front of the transmission...

    Transmission cooler, Need or not?

First let's start with what model year KJ you have... 2005. In 2005 the cooler was a stand alone unit mounted in front of the radiator / AC condenser pack. So you technically have a "aux" cooler at the moment. To improve the transmission fluid cooling capabilities I would recommend that you...

    cold weather

It really depends on how cold it gets in your location and what kind of preperation (storage / heating) you have for the KJ. I can cold start my KJ in temperatures down to -10F when it's parked outside overnight. But, any temperature below that and the KJ starts to get very unhappy because...

    Kj trade??

Personally I would keep the KJ and pick up a new vehicle. I know you said you were only thinking about it at this point but my opinion is: The KJ's paid for so you might as well drive it until it is non-repairable and get your moneys worth out of the vehicle.
