Lunch Trip to BestBuy!
Welcome to the KJ! Best vehicle on the planet....
or.
The KJ is like fine wine - it gets better as it ages.
Requirements to be a KJ:
1) Noisy Lifters / Fuel Injectors - Check
2) Powersteering Moan when it's winter - Check
3) Squeaky Front Swaybar -...
Thanks for sharing! And don't feel bad about that number - it seems perfectly reasonable as everyone else has suggested. I plan to keep my KJ on the road as long as replacement parts are available for it.
They are soild, dependable and down right easy to own.
I fully understand what undriving the accessory system does. I've owned 2 Fox Body Mustangs, A SN98 and a F-body.
I suppose what I should ask is: Does anyone have actual user experience with the UD kit? I want to know what problems / benefits it might cause to the KJ if possible.
I...
Sorry to pester - but did you buy the pulley kit?
I am actually curious about the performance change now that I've been thinking about this for a few more days.
Edit: Did some searching and found a couple threads on LOST:
Looks like someone tried them long ago
Another person who...
If you don't mind, what was the cost for repair / replacement?
Also - how does the valve seat fall apart? Is that caused by valve spring failure or something totally seperate?
Honestly I don't think it really matters anymore. The KJ has a pretty good history established on this site and LOST so almost every single question could, in theory, be answered via the search text. BUt then again everyone's got an opinion.
Lately there's been a lot of flame throwing that...
Question:
Will an underdriven accessory system really free up power? Or would the KJ's computer compensate for the slower moving alternator by upping the idle to maintian proper charge?
Also - I thought the computer also cut off torque output at a certain point to keep the drivetrain...
He asked a question and I provided an answer. I'm confident that all of the people reading this forum know the effects of running your vehicle on or near empty for extended periods of time. However, since there is still gasoline being drawn through the fuel pump, the fuel pump motor is still...
Run it to 0 miles till empty (on the EVIC) on the highway, reset the trip computer drive 15 more miles and you'll get 17 gallons in the tank.
Fuel light comes on with a 2 gallon reserve.
The 45RFE is the better transmission. Returns less gas mileage but it's stronger and has a cool selective 2nd gear. One for accelerating and one for passing on the highway.
Lower Ball Joints were prone to corrosion due to their design. Corrosion caused some failures (seperation of the...
Things to look for:
1) 2002 and early 2003 models came with the 45RFE transmission out of the Dodge Ram
2) Same year time frame also gets you: Slightly taller springs (3/4"), 18 gallon gas tank, different power-steering profile and rear drum brakes that function as a killer parking brake...
Why not remove / rebuild and reinstall the esisting engine in the KJ? You'll get a motor with 0 miles on it again and probably end up with a small warranty in the process..?
You'll have to find a 2002 block or reuse yours as far as I know.
If the light keeps coming on like that, it's probably a faulty oil pressure sensor. Located above the oil filter.. Swap in a new one and the light will more than likely stop activating.
Changes to the KJ Engine, that I know of:
1) Location of the IAT sensor moved from intake manifold to Intake Tube
2) Recommended Oil Weight went from 5w-30 to 5w-20
3) PCV valve moved from the chimney stack oil filler to the back of the valve cover
4) Early change to the valves or springs...
Can I ask if the KJ has such proportionate application capability?
I don't think I really care much about the DOT fluid number since I go about every 2 years to the dealer and have the brake fluid bleed out of my KJ (winters.... Rain.... Boat ramps....)
Oh and I've only had the ABS...
