The hose was replaced by the previous owner. Just a few years ago. But I see fluid between the metal line and the nut that threads into the bottom of the pump.
Always something with older cars.....while hunting for the power steering leak I noticed the coolant level has decreased slightly...again. Maybe losing 3 or 4 oz a month.
2003 Liberty, has 141k on a 3.7L
Runs fine, but I did notice some beige droplets in the last of the oil as it drained out...
Do you remember if you needed to put a wrench on the pump fitting to support it when removing the line? I see it has a hex on it, not sure if I should just put a wrench on the line only. Tks again.
Just going out to try and locate the ongoing p/s leak in my son's 03 Liberty. Bottom of the pump is wet and drips. I'm going to degrease (again), and see if I can tell exactly where it's coming from. I have a new o ring for the high pressure line. The line was replaced by the previous owner. Is...
I ordered new bolts, just in case. I read a few posts where people mentioned the bolt rusting to the sleeve. Figure, it's a good idea to have the new hardware in case the old fasteners don't cooperate. Maryland road salt = rust.
Thanks!
Would you recommend new hardware? I'm not sure how hard the stuff will be to remove and don't want to get in a jam (my son drives the Jeep to work five days a week and I get like one day to work on it).
Thanks again Tom, I appreciate your advice and expertise.
Tom (another Tom :))
I bought the OEM Mopar ones from Rock Auto, 52088682AC. Identical to the original ones on the 2003. Just wondering if I should wait before trying to replace them, and buy all new nuts and bolts, since I'm in Maryland, where they use liberal amounts of mag chloride and salt in the winter.
The...
Just noticed rust and perforation on the outer shell of the rear lower control arm bushings. It's a 2003, so not part of the recall. The control arms look good.
Any advice appreciated, should we replace bushings or the entire lower control arms? Thanks!
I am installing a Dorman split backing plate to replace the rusted out one on my son's 2003 Liberty. I can't get a torque wrench in between the hub and rear axle housing. Do most just wrench tighten them? I'll use Blue Loctite.
Thanks!
Can anyone tell me how the cam and lever go together for the right (passenger) side parking brake? Ours was apart and there looks to be more than one way to reassemble. Thanks!
BTW, this looks identical to the Ford setup, look at Dorman 924-741.
UPDATE: The Dorman 924-741 is a perfect and...
yes, seems the same as another new one. Kind of 'notchy', weird. I expected it to feel smooth, like a tie rod end. Havent done a ball joint in probably 25 years, I guess I forgot how they feel.
Moog K3199.
I checked another one at Advance Auto, has the same 'notchiness'. You can hear it. My brother (very good mechanic) suggested greasing it. That helped a lot. He feels it's ok, not a concern.
I installed one ball joint and it went well. The second one feels 'notchy', not smooth. I cranked the press as tight as I could (foot pressure also). I have little experience with this tool.
Sound like a damaged ball joint? Feels weird, not smooth, when you move the ball. Thanks.
