Being that you are running a turbo diesel, you should consider using a vacuum pump for the pcv system. On my ram I just gutted the pcv valve and then plumbed in a check valve in the engine breather that closes when a vacuum is drawn. And then hook up the vacuum pump to the now gutted pcv valve.
Finally installing a JBA 4 link upper control arm. Hopefully it can help my bad pinion angle. Also getting liberty #2 on the road as soon as DMV reopens.
First thing that I would do is remove all the plastic that is sticking out from where the manifold was assembled, then I would port match it and call it a day. I did this on my 5.7 hemi that's on my ram and I picked up about 1 to 2 mpg.
I would do a compression check and see if you are starting to lose compression, but it sounds like you will need to do head gaskets soon due to the white smoke.

Finally got most of my drive line vibrations to go away. The rear driveshaft needed to be lengthened and then re balanced along with new U joints and the big harmonic disk on the rear driveshaft removed. And now I am less then 24 hours away from adding the 3rd 2004 Jeep Liberty to the collection.
