your problem is the friend did not do a quick learn on the trans after the new fluid. when the fluid was changed the new fluid has different viscosity because it is newer and has not sheared, also the friction modifier pack in the fluid was replentished.
how do you correct the situation?

they changed the reluctor wheel (on the crank) at some point! you have to get the right motor with the right reluctor wheel. i believe it changed in 04? mike
with all do respect thats not the way i understand it? because 720 degrees is 12 revolutions of the crankshaft required to fire all six cylinders.

[edit] Odd and even firing
Many older V6 engines were based...
so if it is an even firing motor does that mean that all cylinders fire at 120-120-120-120-120-120, like a 60 degree v-6?
i have also heard the dodge 3.9L (firing interval) is similiar to the 3.7L?
maybe this explains why both have natural "rough" idles, because a 90 degree v-6 is not...
I have heard that the firing interval for the 3.7L is 90-150-90-150-90-150?
anybody know if this is true? and if it isn't true what is the firing interval?
i know the 3.7L is considered and odd firing motor i am just wandering what the degrees are. mike
my local sewer dept says it is alright to put it down the our local SANITARY (treated) sewer. but do not put it down the storm sewer.
you may want to call your local treated sewer dept. and ask.
also try your local government. alot have a "chemical" acceptance programs.
very common noise that is supposed to be normal, here are two examples! i can find more if you need! mike

post #21 is from a dealership tech he seems to think it is the cat...
mine has done this since new. i attribute it to piston slap or timing chain tensioners coming up to full pressure. i am not worried about it since i have heard alot (not all) of 3.7/4.7L's do it with no ill effects.
i agree you need the tsb done, and now that three dealers are involved it gets complex. when i have had tsb's done in the past, the tsb # is listed on the invoice and all parts required by the tsb are listed by # as well. in my past experience their was no doubt about what work i had done (fyi)...
