any ideas on how to fix this

I don't think there is an easy fix. You're probably going to have to buy a new kick panel.

    02 KJ 3.7LTiming Chain problem.....

If I'm right, I think you have to maintain tension on the timing chain once you remove the sprocket from the head or the automatic tensioner for the timing chain will ratchet out. Once that happens you have to remove the timing chain cover to reset them. I've never touched any of this, but I...

    Here Comes the Rust!

That's a fairly common place on Liberties. So are the door bottoms. http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38870&highlight=Rust&page=3

My suggestion for a smoother idle!

I had a Jeep dealer tell me that platinum plugs will cause a 3.7L to throw misfire codes like mad, but for some reason my '03 Liberty runs perfect, even after 10,000 miles on them.

Yellow oil sludge on oil cap

All that does is pressurize the fuel system. I don't see how it would help anything. My uncle, who was a fleet service manager for Verizon, use to always run 5w-30 in his personal vehicles during the winter, and 10w-30 in the summer. According the the owners manual in my 2003 KJ(chart...

Yellow oil sludge on oil cap

The 4.7L has the same PCV routing, thus a similar TSB was put out. http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_2500208.pdf I couldn't find the TSB for the 3.7L, but you get the idea. You can see how the PCV valve was removed from the oil filler neck.

Yellow oil sludge on oil cap

Yep. It's from condensation. I'm not entirely convinced it's just from short trips though, at least not on the KJ. See. The PCV valve draws up warm crankcase air into the oil filler neck where it condenses and turns into that milky looking stuff as it mixes with the oil residue in the filler...

Salvaged Engine - Asking for Problems?

You're answer. No. If there is going to be damage, it is most likely going to be on the external of the engine. As to the reliability of a salvage engine, I think if you do your homework you'll be okay. Most come with a small warranty when bought from a reputable salvage yard. And...

    JK Transmission

I've been researching this because I'm teetering between dropping cash on my Liberty or trading it in for a JK. Now that the girlfriend is back to work, I'm planning on her taking over her Jeep payment. That means an extra $230 a month in my pocket. I know the aftermarket is strong for the JK...

    JK Transmission

I think the 6 speed would be more fun to drive, but the auto may be better offroad.

    JK Transmission

What's the better tranmission offered in the JK? 6-speed manual, or 4 speed auto? Which is better for offroad use also?

    Battery/Charging System

I think my next step would be to test the battery temp sensor, since it controls the charge rate(according to the FSM). This might explain the battery light illumination. If the sensor has failed, the PCM may not be getting the voltage it needs. It may be 'thinking' the battery temperature...

    Welding the pinch weld seem.

I know the accepted practice for dealing with the pinch weld is to beat it over and pound it flat. Since I'm not a fan of pinch welds, due to corrosion issues, has anyone welded their pinch weld seam? I realize there probably aren't any advantages of this other than making the job look...

    drain plug in trans pan

I just installed a drain plug in my new transmission pan a few weeks ago. I did it simply because it would make fluild changes easier. For consistancy, I used a nut that was M14-1.50, the same as the factory engine oil pan drain plug. BTW, I...

    Engine locked up...need help!

Welcome to the board. Wow, you put a new engine in it and it locked up after a few miles. My first suggest would be to see why the engine is locked up. Did it throw a rod, did something with the valve train interfere with a piston? If you knew why it was locked up, then you may be able...

    Sunday ride

We had planned on walking the trail before driving down it, but when we got there, I decided to drive down it a little ways. Then we just keep going. Next thing we knew, we were back in the woods in the middle of nowhere. There were some places where the road completely dissappeared by...

    Sunday ride

A couple Sundays ago my girlfriend and I were out for a ride. She had been telling me about this place near where she used to live. We went up to check it out and ended up taking a 3 mile trip back in the woods. It wasn't anything too serious, but some spots made her nervous. I still...

New New York State License Plates

That's what I don't agree with. It's forced buying if you ask me. This comes right on the heels of shutting down the Champlain Bridge that bridges New York to Vermont.
