I put a small wrench on the very bottom of the ball joint's threaded section below the nut. It has flat sections you can grab with a wrench so you can hold it still. Then I torqued the bolt with a larger regular wrench and used the ol' eyecrometer, since you won't be able to get a socket on the...
Picked up 2 spot lights and 2 flood light cubes for Jeepy. The front spots will be mounted to these cowl / ditch light mounts from At The Helm Fabrication. I’ll definitely prime and paint the mounts first. The rear floods will go on my roof rack’s rear light tabs. The idea for the front is off...
The tapping sound could be slack in the timing chain guides also. It makes a sound almost like a bad lifter & rocker arm. I saw this first hand when I visited the machine shop and went over my partly disassembled engine with the machinist who was rebuilding my cylinder heads and putting in new...
I used to dream about getting both the front and rear steel bumpers from ATH back before the rear was discontinued. It always came down to cost for us, and life seemed to happen just when we possibly had the ability to pull the trigger and the funding was needed elsewhere. Same issue with...
Your engine oil dipstick and a mm ruler can also do the trick in a pinch. Be sure to measure at a known temperature because the level changes when the fluid is hot (it expands). Warmed up, engine running, in park works well.
Here is a good thread on how to do it...
ATH makes quality stuff. I have his front recovery system behind my stock bumper, and his roof rack. Sadly both have been discontinued but glad he is still making winch bumpers for us.
I don’t have a dedicated workspace for mine either. I drilled the feet and installed wheels so that I can roll it to the front of the garage when I need to use it. The wheels have parking brakes so the thing is stable. Here it is pressing out the center of a LCA bushing.
Seized bolts inside...
^^^ This. I did mine two summers ago but first I found an old but good shop press for sale on FB Marketplace or Craigslist. I also used the attachments from the ball joint press kits along with the shop press to be able to press out the centers of the old bushings and to press in the new...
Ok, here are a few more, in addition to the photos already shown above.

Here is the original Mopar skid plate on the left, which is essentially a regular gas tank hanger with an extra steel plate welded to the bottom. On the right is the regular...
The skid has not taken a direct hit since I installed it, so I can’t speak to that. With the 4 inch lift and a good spotter, my Jeep has done some rocky washed out trails without contacting anything underneath. But the skid has held up really well in terms of corrosion resistance and I have no...
These were the first mod I did back in 2011 where I had to drill a hole in my Jeep! Definitely worth it based on the number of times I have worked under the hood since then.
Lost a rod bearing in my original 3.7 at 87,000 miles for no reason. Maybe the original owner didn’t do oil changes on time? I have a Jasper 3.7 in it now and am going on 228,000 miles now.
