What did you do to your jeep today?

You can try telling JScan you have an 08 when you’re plugged into your 07 and see what happens. The 02-07 model years aren’t supported but the 07 and 08 share all the same Powertrain electronics I think.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Steering shaft changed out. I had to remove the old one through the drivers headlight opening, and the "new" one went in the same way. The clunk noise is still there! I was finally able to narrow it down to the inner tie rod on the drivers side. The U-joint in the old steering shaft did have...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Thank you, Derek. I have been studying the factory repair manual and it looks like the steering “intermediate shaft” (between the steering wheel and the rack & pinion) is one part number. I was beginning to see dollar signs floating into the sky, but then I remembered I had a spare steering rack...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Update on the steering clunk… The new rack bushings are functional and the rack is tight. The bolt on the steering shaft that secures it to the rack and pinion is tight and there is no play. There is a ton of play in the U-joint on the steering shaft. It will move maybe 1/16” side to side if...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Thanks, I will take a look at that. It is hard to imagine one of the big bolts going through the new bushings could be loose. But I will check. Your idea sounds more plausible.

What did you do to your jeep today?

I found the clunk noise when turning the steering wheel back and forth. It’s something to do with the steering rack and its new bushings. I’m hoping something just came loose and I can retighten it. More tomorrow.

If it is something I did, that makes me the Fiat in this metaphor! :p

What did you do to your jeep today?

The Jeep developed a front end clunk on a 6 hour trip today. It got me home safely, but now I will need to go over every nut and bolt from my suspension install to see what has worked loose, and also the recent steering rack bushing swap. :(

Nice job. Are you adding heated seats with the leather swap?

    Alignment Mission: Impossible

Check out new bushings by a company called Creative Steel. I just replaced my old worn out steering rack bushings with these and it is a night and day difference in terms of predictable handling.

What did you do to your Jeep today? -Wrangler Edition-

Will you get a little wheeling in while you’re traveling?

    Alignment Mission: Impossible

What I remember Tommudd saying is that you have to sacrifice a little caster to get the camber and toe in spec. Those two are the most important for handling and tire wear. The caster being a little out means the steering wheel doesn’t return to center on its own as easily as before, but I can...

Recharged AC today but temp won't drop below 80°

I should have thought of that too! LOL The lure of a quick fix got us. I also will not be fixing the AC until next summer at the earliest.

Recharged AC today but temp won't drop below 80°

Hi, I also am without a working AC and tried filling the system with the R-134a can with the gauge on top, just as you did. It didn’t work either. The problem (I did some more research into this) is that we didn’t pull a vacuum on the system before refilling. Because both systems were completely...

What did you do to your jeep today?

I have those, but the diameter of the rod under the bushings will be smaller, due to the loss of powder coat and some metal to rust. I decided to go for a new bar for this reason.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Here she is the day I brought her home last September. Trail Rated, Rocky Mountain Edition Jeepy is photobombing all the Commander pics, so here is one with the two of them. The goal with the Commander is to keep her stock but in good mechanical condition. She has needed some...

    Rebuilding My JBA Adjust-a-Strut

The top plates are held to the shock upper eyelets by these. You’ll need a locking nut to match. https://a.co/d/35rdUuR

What did you do to your jeep today?

Keeping a 230,000 mile (370,149 km) Jeep going is a hobby in itself. ;) Also I have an 07 Jeep Commander 4.7 V8 with 160,000 miles I am trying to keep happy. Kind of like having two girlfriends at the same time or something. :p

What did you do to your jeep today?

New rear sway bar installed today, along with new bushings. All Mopar. Here’s what was wrong with the old one. The bushings were clapped out but the bar was so rusty that you couldn’t put new bushings on it. Close ups of the carnage
