I know there were a few guys over on LOST that added cruise to their CRD. I remember that UFO had a thread on it but since LOST is down, I can't access it now. Google hasn't been much help but I'll keep trying different searches.

I know that I need the steering wheel buttons but I don't have the part # for the correct wiring harness. Does the CRD use the same as the gasser?

I have a place that can use Starscan to "turn on" the cruise feature but I'm not sure what part # I need for the wiring harness.

A big "thanks" to whoever can help out.

I think that there are problems adding cruise control to a CRD because of the fly by wire throttle. That said if you can find a "how to" I have buttons and a harness for an '05.

Lewis,

Over on LOST, there was a thread and a few people who've done it successfully. In order to make it work, we need the cruise control switches on the steering wheel and there's a small wiring harness that goes underneath the airbag. Once those are installed, you'll need to get in touch with a dealer or tech that has the StarSCAN tool and have them "enable" cruise on the vehicle's computer. The software and servo are already there.

Cruise control switches, wiring harness (unknown part number) and then StarSCAN...voila! Cruise!

I planned on making a "how to" with pics so us CRD folks would have one.

Hi Tim, I added cruise to my wife's 05 sport that came without it, but sorry, I don't have the part number of the harness. I don't remember that part. Once LOST is back up get in touch with Sir Sam there.

I remember you CATCRD and you were one of the guys I was thinking about over on LOST. I remember Sir Sam telling me about your "success."

BTW, what did get any flak when you went to the dealer to have them enable the cruise with StarSCAN? If you remember, how much did it cost for them to do it?

Tim, once again I have switches from a Limited steering and my original sport CRD wiring harness. Let me know if I can help.

Ok, here's an update. Tulsa had some leftover cruise control switches and a harness so I pulled apart my steering wheel today to take a quick look at the clockspring. Below are some pics. I think that the existing wire that runs to the horn is taken off and replaced with the new harness. This harness will run to the cruise control and the horn. As you can see from one of the pics, the harness that runs to the horn is only using two pins on that connector. If you think about it, this makes sense since the cruise will use some of the remaining pins. Therefore, I don't think a new clockspring will be necessary. I'll post more once I get the harness from Tulsa.

As I suspected, a replacement clockspring is not necessary. I took everything apart last night and reassembled it with the new wiring and switches. I have an appt on Wednesday to get it hooked up to StarSCAN and have the cruise turned on. I'll report back and let you know that everything worked fine after I come back from the dealer.

This is an old post, I know.. Did you get this to work?

I'm curious if you know where the parts can be found for this, or what the part numbers are and maybe I can order them from the dealer? My 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD did not come with cruise control and I really miss having it for long trips.

Thanks!

Greg,

Everything works fine. I took it to the dealer as planned and they finished hooking it up through their computer system. The tech said that he added a ground wire somewhere but I couldn't see any new grounds in the wheel assembly or near the wiring harness. I looked for quite a while too. Others that have had it done, did not report needing a new ground either. So, maybe he was just blowing some smoke. I had it done at Ancira Chrysler Jeep in San Antonio.
Anyway, I used the cruise control paddles and the wiring from those paddles from a wrecked CRD. I bought them from another forum member so I don't have particular part number. Personally, I would make a run to the junkyard and pull them off any libby pre 07. Expect to pay about $20 for the parts. New from the dealer, you're looking at much more I assume. Remember, you need the paddles and the wiring harness that connects them to the clock spring (the female part junction I'm pointing to in the above photo).

Lastly, the cruise works fantastic. I tow a trailer and this is a God send for those long hauls. Some of the more technically proficient guys over on Lost KJ's might know a little more about the dealerships STARSCAN process for enabling the cruise via computer. You might want to do a little searching over there as well.

Hello thebigtman & TonyCRD,

I think I've found a way of adding cruise control to the CRD for ~ $37.39 + s&h. But, I wanted to post it here first and see what you guys think (and if it looks good, for whoever might come here later looking for the same information).

Unfortunately the website does not allow bookmarking pages, so I apologize for the verbosity of this.

First, go to https://www.moparone.com/partsmoc.htm (I selected 2006/Jeep/Liberty)

1. Navigate to Steering Wheel > steering wheel & trim > Cruise Switch
(I selected "Sport" at that point). Items listed are described as "Sport Right" ($13.67) and "Sport Left" ($12.16). There are no pictures or part numbers, but I am presuming these are the actual switches that replace the blanks in the steering wheel.

2. Navigate to Steering Wheel > steering wheel & trim > wire > W/Cruise Control
I see an item there with the description "W/Cruise Control" for $11.56 - I can't help but think this is the wiring harness that connects the switches/horn with the clockspring.

What do you guys think? I'm planning on giving them a call next week to see if I'm right.

- Greg

P.S. I also see a CRD fuel pump for $70.36 under "Fuel System > Fuel supply > Fuel pump"

Those could very well be the parts your looking for but without pics, I can't be 100% certain. You could always call your local dealer and ask the parts guys. They might even match the pricing too. Then, you can inspect the parts before you pic them up.
