I have experienced the same clunk with my 2005 KJ, especially noticeable after backing out of a parking spot. As soon as I moved forward "CLUNK".
My solution was to order poly urethane steering rack bushings, install them, no more clunk.

Shoveled it out of the snow three times today. Drove it downtown to the Post Office and back four wheel drive all the way, streets had not been plowed.
I had a similar problem on an old car i have. I removed the door panels and sprayed the door lock actuators liberaly with WD40 while operating them witth the switch. They freed up and ten years later are still working like new. Worth trying, before investing in a much more expensive BCM.
